As an Assistant Professor, Dr. Sourav Gur joined the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Patna in 2019. Prior to joining IIT Patna, he was a Civil (Structural) Engineer at Array Technologies Inc. (2018-2019), and a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering at Rice University (2017-2018). He received his Doctor of Philosophy in Civil Engineering and Engineering Mechanics (Major: Engineering Mechanics and Minor: Mechanical Engineering) from the University of Arizona (2017), Master of Technology in Civil Engineering (Major: Structures Engineering) from IIT Kanpur (2011), and Bachelor of Engineering (First Class with Honours) in Civil Engineering from the Jadavpur University (2009).

Dr. Gur’s research interest broadly lies in the fields of structural engineering and in the computational mechanics of material. Research experiences in structural engineering include passive vibration control under extreme loads, structural optimization, failure and risk assessment of structures, and application of intelligent material. In the area of computational mechanics of material research interests are MultiScale/ MultiPhysics (MSMP) modeling of material from nano to continuum length and time scales (phase transformation, fracture mechanics, heterogeneous catalysis process), multiscale modeling of the energy storage system (Li-ion battery). He has published his research findings and developments in several international journals of repute and presented at many international conferences.
